Schoolchildren recite verse from Quran at Rajiv’s birth anniversary in front of Rahul
The nation today remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 72nd birth anniversary. Several events were held across the country. In Delhi too an event was held and it caught the attention of a journalist.
Describing about the incident, New Delhi-based journalist Ehtesham Khan wrote this on his timeline: “At the occasion to mark birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, children from Greenfield school, Delhi, sang religious songs from Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Christianity. For the first time I heard children from elite English school reciting a verse from the holy Quran – Qulhowallaho ahad Allah us samad – at such a function. The recitation was in a rhythm making it even more beautiful. Hope it is not just symbolism. Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Karan Singh were present.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the former premier and tweeted: “Remembering former PM Rajiv Gandhi ji on his birth anniversary.”
Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944 and he served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. He was assassinated in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
Sonia Gandhi and his son and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes at Vir Bhumi, the memorial of Rajiv Gandhi. “Remembering Rajivji today. His vision, his values & his deep commitment to the people remain our inspiration,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
