After the death of NDMC estate officer MM Khan on May 16, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union home minister Rajnath Singh had announced compensation of Rs 1 crore and Rs 25 lakh respectively to the family of slain officer who was killed a few meters from his house in Johri Farm by unidentified bike-borne youth.
Police had cracked the case in 24 years by arresting the main accused and the alleged killers.
A close family member of Khan told OKHLATIMES that the money of Rs 25 lakh has been released by the BJP-led Centre. It is understood that the money to be given by AAP Government is also in the final process.
The murder of Khan had grabbed headlines with several politicians making beeline to his residents in Johri Farm.
Arvind Kejriwal too had visited Johri Farm and met the family. He was accompanied by NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar.
“Visited the family of Sh. Khan, the honest NDMC officer, who was murdered bcoz he refused to budge to illicit demands,” the CM tweeted. “Though loss can’t be compensated, Del govt will pay Rs 1 cr to his family as mark of respect (sic),” Kejriwal added in another tweet.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh had earlier in the day announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to Khan’s family. “The NDMC has offered a job to one of the family members, whoever is eligible. The CM was accompanied by NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar during his visit. Expenditure on education of Khan’s children will also be incurred,” said a Government officer.
Khan’s murder continues to be in the limelight with political parties charging tirades against each other with even Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s too be dragged into it. However, the Delhi Police that is investigating into the matter has given a clean chit to BJP MP Maheish Girri, who a few days ago even sat on indefinite hunger strike outside Kejriwal’s house after his name was linked to the murder.
