Burning of waste is illegal but not in Jamia Nagar

Burning of waste is not good for air and hence the NGT has passed an order to penalize people involved in such practices. Ironically the NGT order is flouted in Jamia Nagar with impunity as burning of waste is a normal thing in this deprived locality of Delhi.

Residents lamented that though burning of waste pollutes the air many rag pickers are seen burning it in the open. Moreover of late the waste burning has been found burned at roadside garbage dumping site in Abul Fazal Enclave, polluting the air. Interestingly, there is no voice raised against such practices in the locality where even dumping of construction material is common thing.

A few days ago Shaheen Bagh resident Md Fayaz had raised the issue of burning of waste in the open on social media. He had even shared a video clipping show how burning of waste just a few metres from his flat pollute the air. Despite his several complaints no action has been taken against the official involved in this criminal neglect, he had claimed.

The development is a sad commentary on how things move in the locality where there is little concern among educated class and activists against the most burning issue.
