Burial woes addressed after years of neglect

There are only two graveyards in Jamia Nagar and with one non-functional for years, residents were deeply worried about shrinking space with population exploding in the locality over the years. However, it appears that the issue has been addressed with the non-functional graveyard now operating on a small scale, said residents.

On Friday, a burial took place in the locality. As things happened so quietly many residents are still not aware of this move, said a resident adding that it was during the former Congress MLA Asif Md Khan that work to refurbish the graveyard had started with the aim to get it functional. However, after losing the election construction work had slowed down a little bit.

Moreover, the filling of the graveyard during Asif time had triggered controversy with many residents with pucca graveyard protesting. Despite their protest Asif continued the work and got it completed.

But now things seem to pick up during Amanatullah Khan with the graveyard being opened for burial. It is not known when the burial work began in this nun-functional graveyard.

Many residents pointed out that during this time around posters also surfaced in the locality claiming that the UP Government headed by Akhilesh Yadav has agreed to provide a land for graveyard in Shaheen Bagh. The move triggered a debate in the locality with some terming it political stunt and others welcoming it.
