Boats deployed as precautionary measure to rescue riverbed dwellers in Batla House, Kalindi Kunj.
Taking precautionary measures after reports surfaced of discharge of large volume of water from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana, the Delhi Government has deployed 18 motor boats to rescue riverbed dwellers in case if situation arises.
Following which it is being anticipated that water in Yamuna River might swell. The areas where order of deployment of motor boats have been given included Badarpur, Burari, Soniya Vihar, Jagatpur, Surghar Wazirpur, Boat Club, Geeta Colony, Shamshan Ghaat, Haithi Ghaat, Chilla Village, Mayur Vihar, Batla House, Kalindi Kunj and Bawana Nehar.
The city government’s Irrigation and Flood Control department has directed that the boats be not shifted from these locations till further orders. The order said: “Since the evening of July 16, 106970 cusec water is being released from Hathni Kund Barrage and there is every likelihood of Yamuna bed being flooded and the residents of the Yamuna bed will have to be evacuated to safer locations along the Yamuna Pusta.”
Rain in the last few days in the locality had led to water logging in several parts of the locality with residents crying for attention. From Okhla Head to Batla House to other places of the locality there was water everywhere. Like other parts of Delhi the area was submerged. With no rain today the situation has improved a little bit.
