A few hours before the last day of nomination, the BJP has issued final list of candidates for the upcoming April 23 MCD polls in Delhi.
Batla House resident Jamal Haider has succeeded in getting ticket from ward number 102 S in Abul Fazal Enclave. A Jamia Millia Islamia alumnus, he is known to be close to a senior BJP leader.
This year the BJP has fielded six Muslim candidates in the list of 272 wards. Earlier, Sultan Ahmad of Abul Fazal Enclave, who had recently joined the party, was also in the race. From Zakir Nagar, the party gave ticket to one Kunwar Rafi, who is also a resident of Batla House.
The three civic agencies are under the rule of the BJP and this election is a litmus test as the AAP is intending to unseat the party. After winning the Assembly elections in Delhi with landslide, the Kerjiwal Government is going to test its popularity for the first time in Delhi.
It would be interesting to see how the party performs in the elections with Congress and the BJP also in the fray.
Moreover, to beat anti-incumbency the BJP had already announced not to give tickets to sitting councillors.
