Now, BJP to back Gulfam Saifi from Okhla’s ward 102S Abul Fazal

The BJP Delhi State has decided to back a candidate from Okhla’s ward number 102S Abul Fazal Enclave after nomination of its earlier candidate Jamal Haider’s nomination was cancelled.

Local BJP leader Abrar Chaudhary wrote this on his timeline: “Today, Delhi Pradesh BJP has decided to give support to Gulfam Saifi from Okhla’s ward number 102S Abul Fazal Enclave.”

Also, he shared a few photos of the event where the announcement was made.

Confirming the development, Sultan Ahmed, who joined the BJP a few months ago and was also in the race for ticket, said Gulfam is an interior decorator and is a resident of Shaheen Bagh.

“Now when it is finalized that Gulfam is to get support, we will do our best to make sure to convince the residents to vote for BJP, said Sultan.

The BJP has decided to back him in the April 23 MCD poll, said Sultan, who before joining the BJP was an avid supporter of AAP and before that of the Congress.

Many in Okhla were hopeful that Sultan would scoop the ticket. However, it didn’t happen so as Jamia Millia Islamia alumnus Jamal got the ticket. But his luck too failed when his nomination got cancelled.

The BJP has been ruling the MCD for the last three terms and to beat anti-incumbency the party didn’t give tickets to sitting councillors.

The party faces an uphill task to retain the civic agencies with the AAP that had swept Delhi in the last Assembly elections trying its best to win in the MCD elections.

The Congress too is in the race as after the rout in the Assembly poll, the party is trying its best to make a comeback with stiff competition from the BJP and the AAP.

After a landslide in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is doing all it to continue its march towards win.
