Batla House submerged not due to rain but man-made folly

Residents in Batla House and Jamia Nagar today woke up to surprise with outer road submerged with water flowing everywhere.

For a while people scratched their heads to know the reason as there was no rain. A Gramin Seva driver said early morning it was worst. The underground water pipe got burst up as digging work was going on, he said.

Since morning efforts are on to fix up things and at 12:45 pm water had receded, said residents.

But for many residents such things are not new as they regularly see waterlogging in their streets even during normal time. And to get a rough idea of creaking infrastructure in Jamia Nagar, one just needs to walk through the narrow and dirty lanes of the locality which lack even basic civic amenities.

Piled-up garbage, waterlogging and encroachment are three major things that residents have been battling for years with little solution. For several days residents of Shaheen Bagh had to face hardship as one lane was waterlogged for days with senior officials also turning up on the spot.

Local leader Md Ansar said the situation was left like that for days until residents took upon themselves to address the issue by putting bricks to make ways.
