Left rekindles ‘the forgotten’ Batla House encounter on its 8th anniversary

It was exactly eight years from today when Batla House encounter took place on September 19, 2008 in Okhla. The encounter doesn’t need introduction as a lot has been written on the subject. For initial few years it was a big issue not only in Okhla but across as residents and activists demanded judicial enquiry into the matter but the Congress-ruled Centre and Delhi didn’t budge.

And as the debate raged on TV channels with some activist too trying to cash in, it was actually some local leaders who milked the issue to the hilt and made their political career out of the incident.

This year on September 19, everybody appears to have forgotten the issue with leaders busy enjoying in doing something “important”. Moreover, religious organizations who for years too did their best to cash in on the incident have maintained a low profile.

Batla House looked normal today with security beefed up at some points a day after the Left’s students wing took out a rally in the area a day earlier, rekindling the incident that residents have almost forgotten and are busy with their daily chores.

Today for many the incident has become a political game and nothing else, said some residents on condition of anonymity.
