A community hall which is popularly known as baraat ghar in Batla House got a facelift after a long time.
The building that comes under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Government was looking bright as its wall got new paint.
The hall is popular among local residents and is used a lot by residents during marriage time. Residents welcomed the move.
However, some are skeptical whether how long the decked up hall will remain new. Before the operation started, residents pointed out that many old bikes were dumped very close to its gate. Moreover, its surrounding too has been encroached with some two-wheeler workshops mushrooming nearby and narrowing the road, something that happens in other part of the locality too.
A resident said the problem in Okhla is that empty spaces are gobbled up for business purposes. A walk through the area gives a chaotic feeling with mushrooming workshops on roadsides being a norm.
And it is now common to see empty spaces on roadside being occupied by vehicles that have grown with leaps and bonds in the last few years. With very little space even in expensive flats, residents are forced to park their vehicle on roadside thus narrowing the widened road.
