On Friday Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan gave a call to residents to turn up in large number at Batla House graveyard so as to decongest Batla House by removing roadside encroachment with help from local police. Well the very next day the MLA was there with some of his supporters. The encroachment drive was launched.
The MLA wrote that he approached shopkeepers and vendors to remove roadside encroachment. Some residents were skeptical about the move.
And some among them were right to some extent as on Sunday afternoon the vendors were seen back on the roadside putting their items for sale at Batla House graveyard. When asked, a vendor said yes on Saturday we were told to remove our items but today some has turned up.
As one moved ahead to Batla House chowk, several vendors were seen on the roadside selling fruits and the road was narrowed due to the roadside vendors. What happened in the evening or night is not known.
Roadside encroachment is a big issue in Jamia Nagar. Residents lamented that it is not only Batla House that faces the problem as in Abul Fazal Enclave half the road has been gobbled up by workshops and illegal parking of vehicles. So is the situation in other parts too.
