Centre for European and Latin American Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, organised a five-day GIAN course on “South South Cooperation: Relations between Latin America and Asia” taught by Dr. Gladys Teresita Lechini, Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Rosario, Argentina, from November 29 to December 3, 2016.
Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Jamia, inaugurated the GIAN course on November 29 at Tagore Hall, Administrative Block, Jamia, at 10:00 am in the presence of Ambassador of Argentina H.E. Ms. Maria Cristina Ueltschi.
The objectives of the course are to examine various aspects of South-South Cooperation alongside its evolution and recent developments; discuss the causes (structural or conjunctural) of its revival in the 21st Century; address South-South Cooperation from the Latin American perspective; concentrate on Latin America-India international relations; analyse Brazil- India cooperation within the IBSA and BRICS context and to evaluate South-South Cooperation in the face of possible systemic turbulences.
The course faculty member, Professor Lechini, is an accredited professor of International Relations from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, National University of Rosario, Argentina.
Professor Lechini is a renowned Latin American Scholar with 10 books, more than 40 chapters and several articles to her credit. She has a degree in Political Science (1974) and in International Relations (1975), Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, National University of Rosario –UNR.
She speaks English, French and Portuguese, besides Spanish.
Currently, she is Professor of International Relations at the National University of Rosario, Senior Research Fellow of the National Council for Scientific Research (CONICET), Director of the Ph.D. Programme on International Relations, Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, UNR, Director of the Program on South-South Relations and Cooperation –PRECSUR and of the Rosario Institute of Studies of the Arab and Islamic World –IREMAI-Coordinator of the African Department at the International Relations Institute, National University of La Plata.
The host faculty, Professor Sonya Surabhi Gupta, is professor of Latin American Studies and currently Director of the Centre for European and Latin American Studies, Jamia.
She did her MA in Spanish and later her Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, with a thesis on the poetry of the Spanish Republican exile in Latin America.
