Amanatullah’s bail hope dashed; sent to Tihar Jail for 14 days

Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, who was arrested from his house in Batla House on July 24, will spend his 14-day judicial custody at Delhi’s Tihar Jail. He was presented at Saket Court today and his bail plea was rejected for the third time.

Khan was arrested after a Jasola-based woman alleged that she was threatened at his house where she had gone to raise the issue of power cuts, an allegation that AAP and the MLA has rubbished.

Saeed Ahmad, Media in-charge AAP OKHLA, said he has been sent to 14-day custody at Tihar Jail.

“The inconsistencies pointed out by the counsel of the complainant are a matter of evidence and trial. The co-accused in the case are yet to be identified and apprehended. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the nature of allegations and material on record, I am of the opinion that the accused might influence witnesses and hamper investigation if released on bail at this stage. Accordingly the application for bail is dismissed,” the Metropolitan Magistrate Manisha Tripathi said as reported by PTI.

Khan’s judicial custody is till August 9.

Special Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohan said that the probe into the case was still under progress and the complainant was constantly being threatened and harassed at the behest of the accused and he may influence witnesses and hamper the investigation, reported PTI.

Advocate Madan Lal, who appeared for Khan, sought bail for his client. “The present case is an attempt to falsely implicate him,” the counsel said.
