A protest rally was organised in Okhla allegedly by some AIMIM member today against the proposed mushaira called by AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in Jamia Millia Islamia on October 22, according to sources.
Despite messages being circulated urging residents to turn up in large numbers in Shaheen Bagh a few residents only turned up and of them most were new AIMIM members, said eyewitnesses.
The rally raised slogan against the plan to hold mushaira and moved around the locality. However, eyewitnesses said the rally was not crowded as it reached G Block of Abul Fazal Enclave.
Many termed the protest rally as a huge failure.
Since report surfaced of mushaira planned by Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan in which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrwial is also to participate, several residents started protesting against it. They argued that how can a mushaira be held in Jamia Nagar at a time when the deprived locality is reeling under dengue deaths.
Some activists claimed that more than 70 residents have died due to dengue with little help coming from the state government. OKHLATIMES.COM was unable to authenticate the claims of numbers of death. However, the portal has been reporting regularly about dengue deaths in the locality that has been high.
