Hair-raising moment in Jamia Nagar when toddler hit by auto and got dragged under its wheels

A toddler’s miraculous escape after being hit by a speeding auto and being dragged under its wheels in Abul Fazal Enclave on Thursday left residents gobsmacked.

It was in the morning when some parents had gone to drop their children to school and of a sudden they got distracted by the voice of a speeding auto coming to a screeching halt in the middle of the road and cries of some passersby.

It all happened in a few seconds at thokar number 4 and everybody was left stumped with the turn of event, said an eyewitness, adding that some passersby and parents rushed to the spot to extricate the small boy, who immediately jumped to his mother’s arm.

It appears that the boy didn’t receive any external injury.

Some people were angry at the driver, who requested forgiveness with his folded hands and said it was not his fault as the boy had come in front of the vehicle. Many residents were not convinced.

Eyewitnesses said it appeared that after coming at the bus stop the toddler’s mother went to the divider to talk to another female as the road was empty. Left on this side, the toddler too tried to cross the road to be with his mother and it was during this time that he was hit by the speeding auto and got dragged, said the eyewitness, adding that he was lucky to survive the accident.

Later on the driver left the spot with people going back to their homes as usual. The latest condition of the toddler’s health is not known.

Many residents lamented that rash driving has become a common thing even narrow lanes of Jamia Nagar with several minor and major accidents reportedly taking place. Residents still remember how years ago, a woman was hit by a rogue driver in AFE. In that case the woman after being hit by the bike fell on the divider. She was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
