Okhla residents’ dream to have one more graveyard was fulfilled a few months ago when posters had surfaced in the locality about UP Government declaring to give a land in Abul Fazal Enclave for burial.
Initially residents were apprehensive and thought it must be a gimmick to win hearts and minds of UP residents living in Okhla in the upcoming Assembly elections.
But those who thought on that line have been proved wrong as report has surfaced that the first burial has taken place in the graveyard.
A resident Shadab Khan said it was days ago when announcement was made from a local mosque in AFE that the burial is to be taken place.
Political observers are of the opinion that the move will benefit SP candidate in the MCD elections as a major issue of the locality has been addressed.
A source said for long time residents have been demanding for a burial as the graveyard in Batla House has been full. And as the population in the locality has multiplied there was a need for a new place.
“It is a welcome move and we need to be thankful to the SP Government for providing the land for graveyard in AFE and addressing residents’ woes,” said Naseem Ur Rahman.
