Once lifeline of Abul Fazal, this bridge lies in ruin

In the last fifteen years Okhla has changed a lot. New buildings have come up and roads have been built improving connectivity. Old timers still remember a narrow and small bridge that used to connect Okhla Head with Abul Fazal Enclave with buses ending their service on Okhla Head.

bridgeokhlaOver the years things changed as AFE started developing with empty lands being changed into mostly claustrophobic flats with little or no sun rays. The haphazard urbanization of the locality took everybody by surprise and within a short span of time the area grew in population. Looking at the situation, the old bridge was under intense pressure to cope with changing equation in the locality. And to address the situation, a new broadened bridge was built with the old one being used initially for some time. However, now with metro being built over it, now it lays in ruin not being used at all as people with vehicles only move on the new bridge.

The situation is such that many new residents don’t even have any idea about the bridge and how it kept the people going when there was no big bridge. Moreover, the connectivity also improved in the locality as road on Kalindi Kunj was broadened making it easy for people from Noida too taking the short cut to Delhi’s Ashram or Ring Road.

Also, the bus stop changed with the main stop being taken to Kalindi Kunj.
