The founder member of AAP in Okhla Zia Chaudhary is third time unlucky as he once again has not succeeded in scooping ticket from 100 S whose ticket was announced on Friday.
Zia’s story goes back to 2013 when the newly formed AAP made its electoral debut in the Delhi Legislative Assembly election. The AAP being a newbie needed die-hard fans to win hearts and minds of people in Okhla that in those days was Congress bastion.
It was then that AAP got a young and energetic Zia, who used to campaign tirelessly in the locality with some educated youths like Ali Shoukat holding corner meetings and cleaning the locality in the hope to get ticket for Zia. However, luck didn’t smile then as new entrant Irfan Ullah Khan got the ticket. Many founder members, including Shoukat and other professionals, resigned in protest then.
Zia allegedly appeared to be dejected but continued to be loyal to the party. And after some days he was seen canvassing for the party in the locality in the hope that luck would smile on him later on.
Then came 2015 when elections were again held as the AAP Government resigned after remaining in power with support from the Congress for 49 days. Then too Zia was a contender for ticket but things appeared difficult as many new leaders like Amanatullah Khan and others had joined the party.
In the race for ticket, it was Amanatullah who won the ticket and also registered a history win for the party. The AAP consolidated its position in Delhi by winning 67 of the 70 seats in the Assembly.
Zia didn’t give up and as a loyal party worker he diligently worked for AAP. Another chance for Zia came in 2017 with the party getting ready to contest the civic agencies elections. But this time too lady luck didn’t smile on this energetic leader as he once again lost in the race to get ticket.
