Just a day after death of two workers in Shaheen Bagh from high tension wire, another sad story is emanating from Okhla.
A 10-year-old boy, who had gone for swimming in a canal in Kalindi Kunj area this afternoon to beat the heat, has drowned.
It was at around 3:10 pm when after finding the boy struggling in the water locals raised an alarm but could not save him.
It is understood that some eleven divers even tried to rescue him. It was after more than half-an-hour of struggle that at about 4 pm the child’s body was fished out, according to police.
Some locals identified the victim as Vikas, who lived near the canal. They told police officials that he was a regular at the canal where he used to go for swimming with friends.
He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, a district administration official told PTI.
Locals said this was not the first incident in the locality.
Last year another youth had drowned and as summer peaks many youth are seen diving at Okhla Head just to beat the heat. Residents were shocked with the incident and lamented to the loss of young life.
